End of Support for PHP 7 & 8.0
PHP 7.4 and 8.0 are EOL from end of 2022 and 2023 respectively.
We have been allowing extended support on some of our servers for these versions. This will be coming to an end from the 30th June 2025.
As part of ongoing security updates, on the 30th June 2025, we will be removing support for old versions of PHP, the minimum supported version will be PHP 8.1. Any sites still running older versions will be switched to PHP 8.1.
This is necessary to keep security & performance on our servers to a high level, and help against hacking attacks on customer websites.
Old versions of PHP contain security vulnerabilities and sites running on them are open to easily being hacked.
PHP 8.1+ also has significant performance improvements for websites.
WHAT YOU NEED TO DO:
- You will need to take steps before the 30th June 2025 to ensure your website PHP version is up to date, or it will be at risk of going offline.
- If it is an old version of your website, or a test site, then assess if it can be removed. If it can be removed, then let us know and we will do this for you without charge.
- If you have a developer who looks after your website, contact them, to organise getting your site updated
- If you run into any issues following the update E-Live can assist with this, so if you need help, please respond to this email and we can advise you of the steps needed and estimate the costs involved.
We would advise you take action as soon as possible to ensure your website remains active.
UPDATING YOUR WEBSITES PHP VERSION:
- You can find the PHP version of your website in your Elive hosting panel under PHP Settings. In this area you can set the PHP version of that website from the drop down menu.
- Select a PHP version to update to, scroll to the bottom of the page and click the ‘Apply’ button. The changes will take place on the site very quickly, usually after 1 minute.
- After performing this upgrade it is advised that you do a thorough check of your website to ensure everything is working on it as usual.
- If your site runs into any major issues you can check the logs for it on the hosting panel to diagnose what might be causing the problems.
You can open a support ticket and we can revert the PHP update back to it’s previous version to resolve this in the short term and you can then contact your site developer to fix the PHP issues on the site or we can look into the issue.
Remember, we also have some great WordPress Support packages available that keep your website up-to-date, monitored and backed up.
You can view these here: https://www.elive.net/wordpress-support/
We will be compiling a list of the sites still running old versions of PHP in the coming weeks and emailing each customer directly to alert them to the need to updated PHP, so watch your Inbox if you think you might be affected.
