Thepost.ie,coop.ieand aero.iedomains will go on sale for the first time from 8 May, IE Domain Registry, the company responsible for managing Ireland’s country domain name has announced.

In the initial “Sunrise Phase” from 8 May–6 June 2019, qualifying trademark holders will be given the chance to register the names.

Domains that are still available after this phase will be made available to members of the general public who meet the standard .ie registration criteria. This phase will provisionally commenceon19 July and remain open for 30 days. 

If multiple parties apply for the same domain name in either of these two phases, an auction will be held. The winning bidder will be allowed to register the name.

In the final “General Availability Phase”, the remaining domains will be open to registration through the normal .ie application process.

New opportunities

Post.ie,coop.ieand aero.ie were recently made available following a review of .ie domain registration rules by the IE Domain Registry’s Policy Advisory Committee. 

Commenting on the release of the domains, David Curtin, Chief Executive of IE Domain Registry, said:

“The .ie extension remains Ireland’s first choice for an online presence – for a website or an email address. To local customers, it represents trust; to international customers, authenticity. Initiatives like the release of post.ie, coop.ie and aero.ie are a continuation of IE Domain Registry’s work to make the .ie namespace more open and accessible to those with a connection to Ireland. These initiatives will enable more people to connect with communities and customers online, and engage in e-commerce.”
